Aimed at the coil, not at the dust

The indoor coil stays damp while the system cools, which is where mold and bacteria can grow. A UV lamp mounted near the coil is intended to limit that growth on the surfaces it reaches. It does not remove dust, pet dander or other particles; that is the filter’s job.

The scope

  • Lamp installation — a UV lamp mounted near the evaporator coil, positioned to reach the coil surface.
  • Power and safety — wired so it switches off when the cabinet is opened, where the unit supports it.
  • Upkeep — when the lamp may need replacing, explained at handover.
UV lamps work alongside a good filter, not instead of one.

Questions

Straight answers about UV lights

What does a UV light in an HVAC system do?

It is intended to limit mold and bacterial growth on the coil surfaces it reaches.

Does it clean the air of dust?

No. UV light has no effect on dust or pet dander. A properly fitted filter handles particles.

Are UV lights useful in Austin?

Humid conditions keep evaporator coils wet for long periods, which is where UV lamps are most often considered.

How often is the lamp replaced?

It depends on the lamp. We explain the replacement interval for the model installed.
