A UV lamp is usually installed near the indoor coil, where moisture can support mold and bacterial growth. It is intended to limit that growth on the surfaces it reaches. It does not remove dust, pet dander or other particles; that is the filter’s job.
Humid conditions keep evaporator coils wet for long periods, which is where UV lamps are most often considered. Whether one suits your system depends on the equipment and how it is installed.
An electrostatic filter uses a static charge to attract and hold airborne particles. Many are washable and reusable. Check that the filter fits your system and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Remove the filter and flush it with water against the airflow arrows, then rinse the other side. Use a mild cleaner on stubborn spots and rinse again. Drain the excess water, let the filter dry completely and reinstall it.
