A shorter, safer route outside

A dryer vent works best when the route is short, with as few turns as possible, in metal duct, ending at an exterior cover with a working damper. New laundry rooms, remodels and long attic runs are common reasons to install or relocate a vent.

The scope

  • New installations — a new vent run from the dryer location to an exterior termination.
  • Relocation — rerouting an existing vent to a new wall or roof termination, or shortening an overly long run.
  • Terminations — exterior wall or roof covers with a backdraft damper.
Follow the dryer manufacturer’s venting limits; we route the vent within them.

Before you ask for an estimate

  1. Share the layout

Where the dryer is, where the nearest exterior wall or roof is and what is in between help us plan the route.

  2. Know your dryer

The dryer’s manual lists its maximum vent length and number of turns. Have the model ready if you can.

Questions

Straight answers about dryer vent installation

What material should a dryer vent be?

Metal. The CPSC recommends rigid or flexible metal venting rather than plastic or foil.

Why move a dryer vent?

Long runs with many turns collect lint and slow drying. Relocating or shortening the route can help, as can moving the laundry to a new room.

Can a vent go through the roof?

Yes, where a wall termination is not practical. Roof vents need a suitable cover and should be checked regularly.

Do you install the dryer itself?

We install and relocate the vent. Gas and electrical connections for the appliance are handled by the appropriate trade.
