One duct system, several names
A typical Austin home has a central system where the furnace (or heat pump) and the air conditioner share the same blower and the same supply and return ducts. Whether you search for AC duct cleaning or furnace duct cleaning, it is the same ductwork being cleaned.
What actually differs
The ductwork
Supply ducts carry conditioned air to each room; return ducts bring it back. Air duct cleaning removes debris from both, along with registers and grilles.
The cooling coil
The evaporator coil inside the air handler collects dust and moisture. ENERGY STAR lists coil cleaning as part of a cooling check. See evaporator coil cleaning.
The blower
The blower moves air for both heating and cooling. Dust on its wheel reduces airflow. See blower cleaning.
The furnace
The furnace cabinet and burner area need attention before the heating season. See furnace cleaning; burner and gas repairs need a licensed technician.
Which service to book
- Dust blowing from vents or debris inside the ducts: air duct cleaning.
- Weak cooling or high indoor humidity: ask about the evaporator coil.
- Weak airflow from every vent: ask about the blower and the filter.
- Before winter: furnace cleaning or a tune-up.
